SMS Notifications — Consent & Call to Action

This page documents how Resilient Kids collects opt-in for transactional SMS notifications and what users receive after opting in. It is the public reference for our A2P 10DLC campaign registration and carrier review.

Effective date: May 14, 2026 Last updated: May 14, 2026

At a glance

Program name: Resilient Kids transactional alerts.

Who receives messages: Authenticated users of the Resilient Kids mobile app who have explicitly entered a phone number, agreed to the SMS program terms via an unchecked consent toggle, verified the number with a 6-digit code, and opted in to SMS for one or more notification categories.

How users opt in: Inside the app at Settings → Notification Preferences, across two screens. Screen 1 — the user enters a phone number, ticks an unchecked-by-default consent toggle, taps Send code (disabled until both are done), and confirms a 6-digit OTP. Screen 2 — the per-category matrix, where every SMS checkbox starts unchecked.

How users opt out: Reply STOP to any message, or toggle SMS off in the same in-app screen. Either path takes effect within seconds.

Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help. Message frequency varies; most active users receive 1–10 messages per week.

We do not share mobile opt-in data or consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes. See Privacy Policy §3.5 and Terms of Service §19.

1. How users opt in (the Call to Action)

Resilient Kids is a mobile app for adult caregivers. SMS opt-in is collected entirely inside the authenticated app — never on the public website, never via web forms, never through purchased lists. Opt-in is a two-screen flow inside Settings → Notification Preferences:

  1. Screen 1 — Phone number entry & program-level consent. The user enters a phone number in E.164 format, reads the on-screen SMS program terms (categories, frequency, "Message and data rates may apply", STOP, HELP, Terms and Privacy links, "consent is not a condition of purchase"), and toggles an unchecked-by-default consent switch to agree. The "Send code" button is disabled until both the phone field is a valid number and the consent toggle is on. Tapping Send code triggers a 6-digit OTP sent to that phone; the OTP is the only SMS sent before the user completes verification. The user enters the code to confirm number ownership.
  2. Screen 2 — Per-category granular control. Once Screen 1 is complete, the SMS column of the Notification Preferences matrix becomes functional. Every SMS checkbox starts unchecked. The user explicitly toggles SMS on per category (Account Security, Advisor Updates, Weekly Digest, Household Changes, Urgent Alerts). The same matrix is reachable any time post-onboarding; users can enable, disable, or change SMS preferences whenever they like.

Each consent action writes an event to our event-sourced backend. The Screen 1 agreement is captured on the user's phone record (timestamp of agreement + verified phone number). Each Screen 2 toggle writes a NOTIFICATION_PREFERENCES_CHANGED event recording the user ID, channel (Email / SMS / Push), category, new value, and timestamp. All records are queryable for audit.

2. What the in-app consent screens look like

Consent is captured across two screens, both inside Settings → Notification Preferences in the authenticated app. Screen 1 is where the user enters their phone number and explicitly agrees to the SMS program terms via an unchecked consent toggle. Screen 2 is the per-category matrix that controls which message categories the user receives over SMS after the program-level consent in Screen 1 has been granted and the phone number has been verified via a 6-digit code.

Screen 1 — Phone number entry & program-level consent

This is the primary opt-in point. The user must (a) enter a valid phone number in E.164 format, (b) toggle the consent switch on (the switch is unchecked by default), and (c) tap "Send code" — which is disabled until both (a) and (b) are true. After tapping Send code, the user enters a 6-digit verification code we text to the number. No SMS other than that one verification code is sent until the user has completed both steps.

Phone for SMS — the opt-in entry point in Settings → Notification Preferences.

What's on this screen

  • Phone number input — E.164 format (e.g. +12025550100). Validated client-side; "Send code" stays disabled until format is valid.
  • SMS program terms card — message categories, frequency (1–10/week), "Message and data rates may apply", STOP/HELP keywords, Terms and Privacy links, and the statement that consent is not a condition of purchase.
  • Explicit consent toggle — unchecked by default. The user must tap to enable. Label restates the program-level agreement: automated messages, frequency, rates disclosure, STOP, HELP, not a condition of purchase.
  • "Send code" button gated on both — valid phone format AND consent toggle on. Tapping it triggers a 6-digit OTP delivered to the phone. The OTP is the only SMS sent before the user completes verification.
  • Consent provenance — when the OTP confirms, the backend records the timestamp of agreement on the user's phone record; per-category SMS toggles in Screen 2 then write separate NOTIFICATION_PREFERENCES_CHANGED events.

Screen 2 — Per-category granular control (after Screen 1 is complete)

Only after a phone number is entered, consented to, and verified does the SMS column of the Notification Preferences matrix become functional. Every SMS checkbox in this matrix starts unchecked. The user explicitly opts in per category. The user can return to this screen at any time to enable or disable SMS for individual categories.

By toggling SMS on for a category, you confirm your earlier consent to receive automated text messages from Resilient Kids for that category. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.

Notification Preferences matrix — granular per-category control, only functional after Screen 1 is complete.

What this screen does

  • Opt-in is per-channel × per-category. A user opting in to SMS for Account Security has not opted in to SMS for the Weekly Digest, and vice versa.
  • Every SMS checkbox is unchecked at first sight. SMS opt-in is never default-on at the category level either. The only defaults are Email Account Security and Email Urgent Alerts, both of which are statutory transactional email.
  • Disclosures are restated on the screen itself. The header text and footer text both state "Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help."
  • Every toggle writes a consent event. The backend records the user ID, channel, category, new value, and timestamp.
  • Opt-out lives in the same place. A user toggling SMS off in this screen writes a matching event; the dispatcher reads the latest consent state before every send.

3. Message categories — what users receive after opting in

Only the following categories of messages are sent, and only after the user has explicitly opted in to SMS for that category. We do not send marketing or promotional messages over SMS.

  • Advisor Updates — confirmation that an advisor (pediatrician, child psychologist, or registered domain expert) has reviewed and signed off on the content delivered to the user's child.
  • Account Security — password resets, new-device sign-in notifications, and verification codes for sensitive account changes.
  • Weekly Digest — notice that the user's weekly digest is available in the app.
  • Household Changes — a co-caregiver added or removed, ownership transferred, or other membership changes in the user's household.
  • Urgent Alerts — time-sensitive events related to the user's account (for example, security events requiring action).

Sample messages

Advisor Updates Resilient Kids: Dr. Sarah Chen reviewed Week 27's content and signed off on the developmental milestones section. View her notes in the app. Reply STOP to opt out.
Account Security Resilient Kids: Your account was just signed in from a new device (iPhone, San Francisco). If this wasn't you, open the app to secure your account. Reply STOP to opt out.
Weekly Digest Resilient Kids: Your weekly digest for the week of May 4 is ready. Open the app to see this week's content for Eli. Reply STOP to opt out.
Household Changes Resilient Kids: Maria Rodriguez has been added as a co-parent to Eli's profile. She can now view Eli's weekly content and sign-offs. Reply STOP to opt out.

4. Message frequency

Frequency varies based on the user's activity and the categories the user has enabled. Most active accounts receive between 1 and 10 SMS messages per week. We do not promise a maximum; if a real-time event occurs that the user has opted in to be alerted about, we will send the message.

5. Message and data rates

Message and data rates may apply. Standard message and data rates from the user's wireless carrier may be charged for messages sent and received. Resilient Kids does not charge a separate fee for SMS notifications. Recipients should consult their wireless plan for details.

6. How to opt out

A user can stop receiving SMS notifications at any time using either of the following methods:

  • Reply STOP (or any of: STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT) to any message we send. Opt-out is automatic and immediate; the user will receive a confirmation message that no further messages will be sent.
  • In-app: open Settings → Notification Preferences and toggle SMS off for the category or categories the user no longer wishes to receive. The change takes effect on the next scheduled or triggered message.

Opt-out via STOP applies to the entire program. Opt-out via the in-app toggle applies to the specific category. Opting out of SMS does not affect the user's account, subscription, or ability to receive notifications via email or push.

7. How to get help

Reply HELP to any message and the user will receive an automatic reply with our support contact and opt-out instructions:

"Resilient Kids: Reply STOP to unsubscribe. For help email support@resilient.kids. Msg & data rates may apply."

Users may also contact us at any time at support@resilient.kids.

8. Carrier and supported countries

The SMS program is currently available to recipients in the United States. Carrier participation includes the major US wireless carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and others). Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Available message types and timing depend on each carrier's capabilities.

9. Privacy & data handling

The following statements describe Resilient Kids' handling of phone numbers and SMS consent data. Full details are in our Privacy Policy, Section 3.5.

  • We do not sell phone numbers.
  • We do not share mobile opt-in data, consent records, or phone numbers with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes.
  • We do not use phone numbers for marketing — only for the transactional, account-related categories the user has explicitly opted in to receive.
  • We do not use SMS for behavioral profiling, advertising, or ad targeting.
  • We use Twilio, a US-based communications platform, as our SMS delivery sub-processor. Twilio receives the phone number and message body only to route the message to the user's wireless carrier. Twilio is contractually bound to process this data only on our instructions. Twilio's privacy notice: twilio.com/legal/privacy

10. Consent is not a condition of purchase

Users can use every part of the Resilient Kids service — including paid subscriptions — without enabling SMS. SMS opt-in is voluntary and may be withdrawn at any time without affecting the user's account or subscription.

11. Related policies

  • Privacy Policy — Section 3.5 (SMS data flow) and Section 6 (Twilio as sub-processor).
  • Terms of Service — Section 19 (full SMS program terms).
